Successful entry for AkzoNobel mTA Technology in Chinese industry

AkzoNobel Industrial Chemicals and Hunan Xiangheng Salt Chemical Co., Ltd. have entered into a supply agreement to implement AkzoNobel’s mTA Technology. The first customer who will switch to mTA salt completely is Guangxi Liuhua Chlor-Alkali Co., Ltd.
Representatives of both companies confirmed the first commercial production of mTA salt at the signing ceremony which took place on November 6, during the 15th China Chlor-Alkali Forum in Beijing. With the supply agreement AkzoNobel and Hunan Xiangheng Salt Cemical entered a long-term partnership on mTA Technology for the chlor-alkali industry in the southern Chinese provinces. As part of the agreement, state-of-the-art AkzoNobel mTA equipment has been shipped to China which will enable Hunan Xiangheng Salt Chemical in Hengyang to dose the anti-caking agent mTA on four salt production lines simultaneously. The application of AkzoNobel’s mTA Technology leads to significant energy and maintenance cost savings and increased safety when applied in the membrane electrolysis production.

Commented Peter Kuijpers, General Manager of AkzoNobel’s salt business, “This agreement is a clear win-win situation. It will bring the Chinese salt and chlor-alkali industry many advantages. The southern Chinese provinces alone could save 219,000 Mw electricity and achieve a CO2 footprint reduction of 198,000 tons per year by adopting our mTA Technology. For AkzoNobel it is a promising step forward to further stretch the value chain of their salt business, through licensing of our patented technologies”.
