The EU-funded CHAIN-REDS Project is organising a workshop on “e-Infrastructures for e-Sciences” focusing on Cloud Computing and Data Repositories in Beijing from October 17-22, 2013. This will be done under the aegis of the European Commission and in co-location with the International Conference on e-Science (IEEE) 2013.

The international workshop organised by IHEP, INFN and Sigma Orionis will aim at:

  • Presenting the state of the art of Cloud computing in Europe and in China and discussing the opportunities offered by having interoperable and federated e-Infrastructures;
  • Exploring the existing initiatives of Data infrastructures in Europe and China, and highlighting the Data repositories of interest for the virtual research communities in several domains such as health, agriculture, climate, etc.

During the conference, keynote speakers will present their vision of Cloud computing and Data repositories in Europe and China. Already confirmed keynote speakers include Fabrizio Gagliardi (chair of ACM Europe Council) on cloud computing, as well as Professor Baoping Yan (CNIC/CAS) and Peter Wittenburg (Max Planck Institute Society) on Data repositories.

Organisers welcome presentations related to the above mentioned topics. Submissions have to be written in English and commercial presentations will be automatically rejected. Papers must be submitted electronically before July 21, 2013.

The CHAIN-REDS Project aims to support and disseminate the best practices currently adopted in Europe and other continents, and to promote and facilitate interoperability among different regional e-Infrastructures. CHAIN-REDS gathers the main stakeholders of regional e-Infrastructures, collectively engaged in studying and defining a path towards a global e-Infrastructure ecosystem that will allow VRCs, research groups and even single researchers to access and efficiently use worldwide distributed resources (i.e. computing, storage, data, services, tools, applications).
