Besides the government-run research programs, science parks and incubators it’s also interesting to see bottom-up DIY technology creation. Therefore we thought it might be of interest to read the following announcement.

In partnership with XinCheJian and DF Robot, Techyizu’s Hackyizu: Hardware Edition kicked-off last Sunday with a warmup event that allowed individuals to learn about Arduino, form teams, choose projects, and get to know each other.

New participants can purchase an Arduino kit at the event this Saturday for 100 RMB (while quantities last) and either join an existing team or register a new project.

Teams/projects so far:

1. Laser Cutter: build a laser cutter, as crazy as it may sound ! (this is partly based on 3d printing technology)
2. Hack Type: build beautiful printed circuits with shapes and components that resemble tech-style font types !
3. Liquid Lens: build glasses with LEDs that you can control with your Android !
4. Air Sensor Fun: build the cheapest Air Filter on earth !
5. Smart Hydroponics: build hydroponics that automatically display the health and needs of your plants !
6. “My pocket screen” (name not chosen yet): build a transportable LED screen and leave 3D messages anywhere you go !
7. Scoot Hi: throw out your electric bike keys and build an electronic safety system controlled by your smartphone !
8. RFID Location: do you lose small objects at home ? Insert RFID chips in them and map their location on your PC or smartphone !
